Calgary Needs Your Support!

If you haven't already heard the news, Google Reader is shutting down on July 1st. If you use Google Reader to follow me, consider switching over to Bloglovin'. I've used it for years and personally recommend it!   I will be having a giveaway starting July 12 and you must be a follower to take advantage, so make the switch to Bloglovin' today and let's stay connected.

And, unless you have been living on another planet, you have probably seen and heard about the devastation that the floods have brought to my beautiful city of Calgary and the surrounding areas.  Several friends have lost everything and the city has come together to re-build.  It will take years and millions of dollars to get the city back on it's feet.

As part of my efforts to give back; Sun 7 Designs will be donating $5 from every blanket and softie purchased from now until July 31, 2013 to our Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.  If you were thinking about purchasing a custom designed personalized baby blanket, now is the time to do so as I would love to send a large donation to the Red Cross.  Spread the news, share this post and place your order through my website and I thank you in advance.

Wine Cork Bulletin Board

Have you ever wondered what to do with all the corks that you have saved over the years?  I just can't bear to throw them away.  Well.... as I was strolling through Pinterest one day, I came across a wine cork bulletin board.  I knew that I didn't have enough corks of my own but my daughter's wedding was coming up and I knew just where to get some.  I asked the hotel if they would save me all of the corks from the wine and champagne that was being served.  I'm sure they thought I was asking so that I could keep track of what was consumed and purchased, but that was not the case.  I had an idea in mind for a cool house-warming gift for the newlyweds.  I collected 41 corks and created this simple bulletin board for the office in their new home.

The hardest part about making this bulletin board was cutting the corks in half without slicing your hand.  I used a very sharp knife and and a very sturdy hand and after cutting 3 or 4 I had my husband do the rest!!!!
I purchased a ready made 12x12 unpainted wood frame at Michaels for $5 and then painted it brown.

I then started adhering all the corks onto the back of the frame with my glue gun.  I didn't have as many champagne ones as wine so I created their initial with the champagne corks.
I added the Tim Holtz metal corners.

And here is the finished product, ready to hang in their home office!

A couple of leftover corks were used as push pins by removing the head and gluing the end of the pin into the cork.  Love this!

Check back on July 12th to join the "Where Bloggers Create" party and enter my giveaway.

Yours Truly

This is my Design Team layout for Scrapbook Magazine Issue 71.  We had to do a layout for the "All About Me" feature.
I never like any of the photos taken of myself and rarely scrapbook myself so this one was a challenge.
A couple of close-ups...
Love this Prima zipper pull.
Some Prima flowers with a fabric butterfly...
