Snow Day!

Since the onset of this blizzard weather we are having, and the many unofficial "snow days" we have had this winter..... I've had a chance to spend a lot of time indoors and what better room to spend it in than my scrapbooking room.  So this week I wanted to share my scrapbooking space with you.  I am so fortunate to have two complete rooms to myself; one for scrapbooking and one for sewing.  Sometimes I feel that I need more room to create, but if I would just start using the product that I have stashed away instead of buying new, I wouldn’t need such a huge space.  When I yearn for a larger space I usually start thinking about the gals who create out of a space the size of my closet and then I feel very grateful.  I love my scrap space and my favorite time is when I can spend the day in my room, listening to my favorite tunes on my iPod and creating....

Punch Bug!

Remember when we were kids and we would be in the car or walking down the street with a friend and for no apparent reason he/she punches you in the arm and says "Green Punch Buggy”? You were playing the Punch Buggy game.….

The rules are simple; whenever you see a Volkswagen Beetle, as quickly as you can, turn to the person nearest you, punch their upper arm and say the color of the car, followed by "Punch Buggy". Remember to say "no punch-backs". If you don't, someone else can punch on the same car, a situation to avoid. This game has been around for as long as I can remember and it is still around today played at all ages as was evident to me when I was sitting in the Tim Horton’s drive-thru a few weeks ago and a group of kids from the high school across the street started punching each other and screaming “Green Punch Buggy” when they saw my car. The rules vary from region to region and sometimes the words “Punch Bug” are used and you accumulate points, a VW Bug convertible or van gets you double the points…. Whatever rules your family uses they will most definitely be passed down from generation to generation.

For the challenge this week at Let’s Scrap I decided to do a layout about my very own “Punch Bug”.

I hope you Dance

“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Loving might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance”

Today my baby girl turns 26. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday that I came downstairs to make Brad some breakfast before he left for his early shift at work…. 5am…. and as he got ready to leave the house, my water broke, right then and there on the kitchen floor. 6 hours later my baby girl was born. Time may pass but my memory of that day is like it happened yesterday. One of the happiest days of my life….. Named after her Grandma Kiera…. Meagan Kiera was a chubby 8.5 pound baby girl 10 days overdue and full of life.

As a Mother I have many hopes and dreams for my daughter but today …..I hope you dance

This week’s sketch at Let’s Scrap was for a card so here is my take on the sketch.

Red Rose Day

“Did you ever know that you’re my hero

and everything I would like to be?

I can fly higher than an eagle

for you are the wind beneath my wings”

For as long as I can remember when someone close to me dies I buy a red rose in remembrance of them; either for myself or to give to their close loved one. It’s always been my favourite flower and symbolic of love.

I struggled with whether to share this blog post; suffice it to say that there are only a few of us who think of this special person on a daily basis. Exactly 21 years ago today my world came crashing down around me and I experienced feelings that I never knew existed in me. It’s taken many years and lots of love and support from friends and family, but I have overcome the sadness, the overwhelming grief, the tears and loneliness and now think of him with a smile on my face.

That day changed who I was as a person in unimaginable ways. Things happened to me that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy but I truly believe that everything happens for a reason so I turned pain into passion and forged ahead. Trying to live my best life and teaching my kids to be humble, proud, strong adults. What doesn’t kill you definitely makes you stronger. There is no place to go but UP!

The dictionary defines a miracle as an unexpected event attributed to divine intervention; and that is exactly how I view my experience one month after Brad’s death when I gave birth to our son who today is the spitting image of his father, not only in looks but in mannerisms and personality…... There is something to be said for genetics…… and fate!
The last photo taken of Meagan and Brad...
I created this layout in Miss Lynn's Shabby Chic class recently, I just love these photos!

So today is ‘Red Rose’ day….. to my hero….. 21 red roses! Miss you and love you.

'Til next time.... Enjoy!

Off to a great start....

2011  is certainly off to a great start.....

After an amazing two-week vacation in Paradise I came home to an email from “Let’s Scrap” inviting me to become a member of their design team. This has been a dream of mine and an item on my bucket list for a while now so, needless to say, I was thrilled. I must admit that I was a little nervous but the gals have been fabulous with their encouragement and support as I learn the ropes. I am excited to experience new friendships, motivation and challenges and hope I can inspire others to create.

My first challenge was to create a layout using this sketch
And here is what I came up with.
Head on over to Let's Scrap and give them some love....... and sign up to become a member!
‘Til next time, enjoy!
